Consultation on rock lobster fisheries TAC/TACC decisions for 2016/16
Closing date for submissions in February 11th 2016. The NZ RLIC is coordinating responses from the relevant CRAMACs and will make a general submission to the Minister. The consultation is of particular importance to CRA4, CRA 5, CRA 8 and CRA 9 industry participants.
Rock Lobster Industry Welcomes Prime Minister's Pledge of Farmland Buffer Zones
The NZ Rock Lobster Industry Council has praised the National Party pledge to spend $100 million over 10 years to buy and retire farmland next to waterways to provide a buffer and improve water quality.
Government Marine Protected Area Consultation –
On 12 January 2016 Ministers Nick Smith, Nathan Guy and Maggie Barry released a discussion document on the proposed new Marine Protected Areas Act – see the PDF file.
The NZ RLIC and PIC commissioned a summary of the MPA provisions as a guide to assist industry input to the consultation process.
The rock lobster industry, through a coalition of interested SREs, is adopting a coordinated response to the proposed new MPA regime, including political liaison, liaison with like-minded sectors, a proactive communications programme, research and advice, and a formal submission on the consultation document.

2015/16 Rock Lobster Commodity Levy Notice
The CRA Commodity Levy will be renewed for one year from October 2015 and the NZ RLIC Board has recently approved a budget and work plan to be funded in part from that levy. The Board invites comments on the proposed Work Plan from all CRA quota share owners. The Board will confirm the new levy in mid-August to be notified in September.
